GBST (ASX:GBT), a global provider of technology to the financial services industry, today announced the appointment of Dr Ian Thomas, current President of Boeing Australia and South Pacific, to the GBST Board of Directors.
Dr Thomas holds a master’s degree in international relations and a Ph.D. in history from the University of Cambridge, a graduate degree in social sciences from the University of Stockholm, and a bachelor’s degree (cum laude) in history from Amherst College. His appointment as non-executive independent director will provide international experience and strategic guidance on market entry strategies as GBST continues to look at further opportunities to expand outside of Australia.
Dr Thomas brings twenty years global experience and has held many senior positions including vice president for Boeing’s European operations; leading Boeing’s defence activities in the United Kingdom; and director of international policy for Boeing’s military aircraft and missile systems division in the U.S.
Prior to joining Boeing in 2001, Dr Thomas served in a variety of staff and policy roles in the U.S. Department of Defence. Dr Thomas is an authority on U.S.-allied security relations in NATO-Europe and on the security policies and programs of the United States, Europe and Asia.
Dr Thomas is currently President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Australia and a member of the Prime Minister’s Manufacturing Task Force.
John Puttick GBST’s Chairman and Stephen Lake, GBST’s managing director and chief executive officer, welcomed Dr Thomas to the board.
“Ian’s wealth of experience across innovative international industries makes him a great addition as we continue to strengthen our position in the Australasian and European regions and explore opportunities in new markets,” Mr Lake said.
GBST provides market leading front and back office technology solutions to global broking houses and wrap and platform technology to leading wealth providers.
“Our clients’ technology systems are critical to their success and it is our role to continuously enhance our platforms with new features while improving reliability, scalability and the user experience,” Mr Lake said.
“This challenge is something Ian is well accustomed to. His counsel will prove invaluable as we tackle balancing the priorities of building towards the future of the organisation and long-term revenue streams while rewarding our shareholders today.”
